JAN/FEB CLASSES
Acrylic Painting

January 13th - February 17th | 6 Sessions
$225 + $50 Materials fee | Beginner and up | Ages 15+
This class offers an in-depth study of the many ways artists can use acrylic paint. Each week students will explore one specific painting technique and create a work using that method. Class sessions will cover the use of washes, flats, blending, dry brush and texture. For their final painting, students will use all five techniques to create a varied and dynamic work of art. Open to all levels.
Color and Composition

This class will concentrate on how to communicate and develop a feeling, idea or vision through powerful composition using color, value, texture, scale and balance. Each student will develop their own thematically guided series using the materials of their choice. Students may work in the medium of their choice.

Abstract Drawing

Drawing is one of the most important elements of art making. In this class, we will study drawing not simply as a means of sketching or generating ideas, but as a method of creating beautiful and complex abstract works. Contemporary artists will be our guide as we explore mark making, structure and layering. We will use multiple methods to create our drawings, including working from a still life, abstracting source materials, and others. This class is appropriate for all levels. For beginners, this is a great class for getting acquainted with drawing and gaining the confidence to begin a drawing practice. For more advanced students, this class will push you to think about drawing in new ways and will hone your technical skills.

Sketching Your Everyday World

Use your sketchbook to tell the story of your everyday world. We will discover sketching opportunities in our daily lives and explore ways to keep our hands in the practice of sketching to keep a record of our world, and to prepare ourselves for “big” sketching opportunities (like travel).
Texture, Pattern, Color

This popular class has returned and it now features color! Students will create imaginary landscapes using found texture and collage. Then they will translate that textured landscape into flat pattern. In this drawing and design class students will gain sensitivity to texture and keys to creating unique patterns. Suitable for all levels. Students should bring photos of landscapes that contain architecture or other manmade structures.
Oil Painting: Loosen Up!

Explore what happens when you paint a little bit larger, use bigger brushes, loosen up and push more paint around. For those new to oil painting this class is a comprehensive introduction to oil painting techniques and materials. More experienced painters will continue to develop and refine their skills as we build a painting from idea development and initial sketches to finding a composition and painting in layers. Students will choose their own subject matter and work from photographs, sketches, still life and/or the imagination.
Drawing for Everyone: The Value of Shape

Value and shape are the basic elements needed to describe 3-dimensional form on paper. In this workshop, students will study still life objects and learn how to break down their forms into geometric shapes of light and dark values. Open to children and adults.
Drawing for Everyone: Make Your Mark

Color is a critical element for self-expression and can be mastered if you learn how to manipulate colors and values in interesting ways. In this class students will simplify their palette, broaden their color range, and learn how to mix the exact color they are looking for in order to create intentional, dynamic, and meaningful work. Students will work with high quality acrylic paint and we will create color charts that will be an invaluable reference for your studio. These color charts can be used as a reference for all media.
Watercolor Workshop: Beginner Beginner

Please join us for this fun and accessible workshop that incorporates a series of simple studio exercises encouraging students to explore the fundamentals of watercolor. Discussions will include watercolor materials, techniques and color mixing. Demonstrations will provide understanding of washes, dry brush, wet-in-wet, glazing and mark making. This workshop is for the true beginner!
Oil Painting: Fast and Small

Loosen up and enjoy the process as we use the versatility of oil paint to paint fast and small. The focus of this class is simplifying the process by painting quickly wet-on-wet on multiple small canvases and panels. This “Daily Painting” approach facilitates growth and confidence. Students will choose their own subject matter or work from a still life. New students will learn the basics of oil painting as more experienced painters continue to develop and refine their skills.
