At Flicker Street Studio, we have small classes which ensures individual instruction.  Instructors put a lot of care and work into offering the best classes possible.  Please look over our class policies before you sign up. We are looking forward to teaching you this season!

Beginner - Covers the very basic techniques of the medium at a slower pace and offers a lot of individual help for all students. No prior experience in the medium is required.

Beginner-Intermediate - Reviews basic techniques for beginners as needed, and offers practice exercises to assist in gaining confidence and experience with the medium. 

Intermediate-Advanced  - The student has a basic knowledge of the medium.  The class offers more challenging exercises and encourages individual expression.

  • Refining and Expanding Your Practice with Hamlett Dobbins

    Focus on developing and improving your individual studio practice through a series of lectures and discussions exploring the working methods of a variety of local, regional, and internationally known artists. Each week Hamlett Dobbins and fellow students will provide feedback on work done outside of class. Learn how to articulate intention and listen to feedback. Find words for the wordless.

  • Exploring the Masters with Nancy Cheairs

    Tuesday Mornings

    March 21st - April 25th | 6 Sessions
    $225 + $50 Materials Fee | Beginner and up

    This class will explore several major artists and movements of the late 19th and 20th centuries. Students will create projects from a list that will include impressionism, fauvism, cubism, surrealism, abstract expressionism, color field painting, and pop art. Investigating different art concepts, color, painting and drawing techniques will open up a world of new moves for your art practice. Presentations on different art movements, lots of hands-on studio time and plenty of constructive critique will make this a fun and totally immersive class.

  • Getting Comfortable with your Sketchbook with Elizabeth Alley

    An artist’s sketchbook is a bedrock for ideas, recording impressions, feelings, and thoughts about their world. This class will focus on drawing from direct observation and other methods for bringing those impressions to life. We will explore materials and sketching techniques to help you get to know your sketchbook better.

  • Get Creative with Color, Nature and Collage with Susan Maakestad

    March 22nd - April 5th | 3 Sessions
    $175 | Materials Included | Beginner and up

    Students will work with found photographs and hand painted papers to create collages with landscape and nature themes. Finished works will range from storytelling with collage to abstract interpretations depending on the student’s interest. No experience necessary.

  • Oil Painting: Working in a Series with Sunny Montgomery

    Students will work on developing their individual style by using different source materials, such as photos, art history, memory, and direct observation. Students will focus on a specific subject matter for six weeks. A variety of creative exercises and group discussions will be an important aspect of your studio concentration. Some painting experience helpful.

    Expand and develop your painting skills by going deeper into acrylic techniques. Through a better understanding of the relationship between composition and color, students will learn how to build a painting from start to finish in a way that emphasizes personal style and expression. This course will be challenging but fun, with a variety of exercises to push students to a new level. Some painting experience required.

    $225 | Bring your own materials | Some experience helpful

    In this class, the students will take their knowledge of basic watercolor techniques and begin to develop their own personal voice. The colors you use, the marks you make, and the subjects you choose make up a visual language that need time and practice to develop. We will be getting bigger and bolder in this class as our voices become more focused and confident. The student will need to bring their own materials. A basic materials list will be provided after registration.
